Domestic Asset Protection Trusts (DAPTs) To Use Temporary Exemption

  1. Single people should consider using their temporary exemption.
  2. A DAPT may permit access to assets transferred.
  3. While DAPTs had been used primarily for asset protection they should be considered as a tool to facilitate single taxpayers using the temporarily high estate tax exemption.
  4. Optional structures for DAPTs may include a hybrid DAPT, 10 year delay on distributions or a power of appointment option.
